“Green Line”: A project to signalize the environmental patrimony voltar próximo
An academic project developed by Labim (Urban Visual Communication Image Lab – FAUSP), and supported by the Editorial Connection team.

The “Green Line” project is part of a set of actions and interventions by various governmental agencies working with the local community who want to establish conditions for rescuing and preserving the environmental quality of the “Serra da Cantareira” in São Paulo, and, especially, the area’s resources that provide drinkable water.

The “Green Line” project is a system of visual signals strategically installed in thematic scenarios that invite visitors to reflect on the connection between human beings and nature. The panel content presents an organized set of images that assists viewers in forming a consciousness of the environmental problems, leading them to an acceptance of their personal responsibility toward the conservation of this cultural and environmental patrimony for future generations.

At the first level, warning signs demarcate the entrance around the “Serra da Cantareira” shock-absorber area. Visible from great distances, the portal area provides a clear sensation of entering a special area, where a change of behavior is needed

The second level of panels shows that this area is committed to preservation. The visual elements are strategically placed, in order to offer a constant reminder that a love for and care of the environment is needed.

The third level of panels clarifies and informs visitors about their responsibility to maintain the area and reminds them of what a privilege it is to have the opportunity to enjoy that particular location.
The third level of panels has the biggest exposition in the area, clarifying and informing about the responsibility and privilege of being in that particular location. The graphics and drawers help the construction of consciousness and commitment, leading visitors to be responsible for the conservation of this cultural and environmental patrimony for future generations.

The “Green Line” project in the “Cantareira” area is a joint effort of the city of São Paulo, represented by the Green and the Environment Secretary, and local city halls that partnership with SABESP (Waste Disposal Company in the State of São Paulo) to take care of and preserve nature and the environment for future generations.
